Hoover Corner

Here’s a typical corner of one of the streets we pass almost daily.
PT is Portugal Telecom and controls all phone communication and most internet access. Supermanos is where our landlady bought our new stove.

I have to say that Americans do a super job of hiding wires, cables and the like on commercial buildings.

  2. len Says:

True. But you can’t blame the Portuguese too much. A lot of the buildings around us were built before the AGE OF WIRES. Plus the walls are incredibly hard, thick concrete. Not easily drilled wood and drywall as is common in ‘os Estados Unidos’.

  3. Cathy Says:

But even really old downtown buildings (Des Moines, Chicago for instance, being the only places I could pay attention to lately) don’t have that going on.

  4. Diana Says:

While we were in Spain, I noticed that they made use of the traditional nearly everpresent court yard to run unsightly wires & plumbling which kept the street side of the building looking pretty. They were just lucky that way, because no one could have predicted modern convienences. The Portuguese weren’t as lucky that way.
